I was volunteering a year back and the person I was working with was a reader. Excited to finally meet someone who reads, I asked her what she was reading lately and she replied with mysteries and some other genre. She returned the favor by asking me and I replied with romance/contemporary novels because that’s what I was into at that time. She gave me this look and asked “You’re into romance novels?” Ahh the judgement was real. I could hear it in her voice.
Needlessly to say, the conversation died off real quick afterwards. What’s wrong with romance/contemporary fiction? Nothing. Nothing is wrong with it. No one should be shamed for their reading preferences. What a jerk. Haha.
Has anything like this happened to you guys? If so, what’s your story?
